Operation Lifesaver

moeThe Colorado & Great Western Modular Railroad Club is one of the largest HO scale modular railroad club in the Rocky Mountain region.  The club based in Westminster Colorado started as an idea in 1998 by four HO scale model railroaders living in the Denver area, all were members of Colorado Rail Link club at the time. The four were frustrated with the state of modular railroading locally. They felt that visual experience of modular railroading was missing continuity and a high level detail. They decided to start their own club and began planning the construction of modules that could be interconnected to form a large operating layout showcasing the visual continuity of modular display and operation they desired.

The group started construction in spring of 1998 in a memberís garage building four corner modules as common club property to accommodate the various modules planned by the club as it grew. The four next built their individual modules adhering to the tenant of visual continuity for the clubís first show the Great American Train Show in early 1999. Other modules quickly followed like the canyon, farm and city modules and the layout began to grow. Over the years we continued to add modules and members. Today we have grown to 25 memberís and can display our layout in various size configurations. Our smallest configuration is 20'x24' and our largest 48'x 50'.  The layout features two mainlines which give us the ability to run up to four trains at the same time along with switching trains along several modules. In a typical year, we attend five to six model train events in the Rocky Mountain Region.
