The Colorado & Great Western Modular Railroad is a vibrant HO-scale model railroad club that captures the spirit of Colorado through its evolving modular layouts. The club’s design ethos centers on recreating the diverse, breathtaking scenery found throughout Colorado—from its majestic mountain ranges and sprawling plains to the quaint, historic towns that dot the landscape. Each module contributes to a dynamic, ever-changing tapestry that reflects both the natural beauty and the rich railroad heritage of the Centennial State.

Each year the club attends several train shows either along the Colorado front range or regionally. In a typical year the club will do 5 to 6 train events. Below is the listing of train shows we have planned for the year, and their status

The Sherman Hill Model Train Show is set to take place on June 28th and 29th, 2025, at the Event Center at Archer in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This annual event, organized by the Sherman Hill Model Railroad Club, welcomes train enthusiasts of all ages to explore model train layouts, vendor booths, and more. The show runs from 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday and 10 AM to 3 PM on Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, while children 12 and under can attend for free. With free parking available, it’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the world of model railroading.

Rails In The Rockies train show was held on September 20th and 21st, 2025 and our club is honored to have been part of the show through the years.

Rails In The Rockies is a premier model railroad show event developed and hosted by the Estes Valley Model Railroaders in Estes Park, Colorado. See our show web page at: https://railsintherockies.org/

It has been permanently moved to the last weekend of September. This year we will celebrate all things train related, Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 9-4

The Colorado Railroad Prototype Modelers Meet will take place on September 27th and 28th, 2025, at the Island Grove Event Center in Greeley, Colorado. This annual event brings together railroad enthusiasts to showcase model displays, attend clinics, and explore vendor booths. The meet runs from 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday and 9 AM to 4 PM on Sunday. Admission is $35 for early registration, with options for single-day attendance. Attendees can also enjoy a Saturday night BBQ dinner and open house at the Colorado Model Railroad Museum. Parking is free, making it a convenient and engaging event for all.

The long running Rocky Mountain Holiday Train Show has growth significantly becoming a major model railroad event in northern Colorado each November. Along with the layouts and vendors the show features clinics to demonstrate specific modeling skills. Lots of vendors set up tables of interesting and unique prototype and model railroading items for sale, and was just in time for Christmas gift giving.

We were excited to return in 2025 to the long-standing Annual Model Train Expo in its 48th year, hosted by the Boulder Model Railroad Club in Longmont, Colorado. This unique three-day show is held in conjunction with a Gem & Mineral Show so there will be a plethora of vendors showcasing jewelry, fossils and geologic items along with model railroading items. Definitely making it the perfect opportunity to find unique and intriguing Christmas gifts.

Rocky Mountain Train Show

April 5th-6th, 2025

Denver, Colorado

The Rocky Mountain Train Show took place on April 5th and 6th, 2025, at the National Western Stock Show Complex in Denver, Colorado. As one of the largest model train shows west of the Mississippi River, the event featured over 20 operating train layouts, 70+ vendors, and displays from 16+ manufacturers. Attendees enjoyed clinics, presentations, and a wide variety of model and toy trains, catering to both newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts. With three acres of exhibits, the show offered something for everyone, making it a memorable weekend for train lovers of all ages.
